International observers confirmed the legitimacy of the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan

International observers, including Russia, have recognized the parliamentary elections held on Sunday in Azerbaijan as legitimate and free, SIA reports.

It is a reminder that 767 candidates representing 22 parties clamed for the 125 seats at the supreme legislative body of the republic - about six persons per deputy chair. The ruling "New Azerbaijan" party fielded the largest number of candidates, i.e. 116.

According to head of the parliamentary friendship group Azerbaijan-Russia Dmitry Savelyev, the electoral process in the country is actively developing in terms of compliance with international standards. He took a favorable view of members of constituencies and electoral districts, as well as the voters - all this has allowed to hold parliamentary elections in 2015 on a high organizational level.

According to experts, the country was prepared for the elections to the Milli Majlis very well: webcams allowing online observation of the elections were installed at a thousand polling stations(which is not the case in many European countries), and transparent ballot boxes were used in the voting process. For the first time, there has been applied a practice of marking voters' fingers with invisible ink to prevent the possibility of re-voting.

We are satisfied with the voting process and the electoral campaign in whole, said Ali Ahmadov, the deputy prime minister and deputy chairman of the "New Azerbaijan" party. Once again, we have managed to keep the party's dominating position in the parliament.

Chairman of the Russian Central Election Commission Vladimir Churov praised the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan as fair, transparent, democratic and conducted in full compliance with the legislation of the Azerbaijani state." He is convinced that the absence of ODIHR observers that refused to come to Azerbaijan had no impact on the legitimacy of the elections: "As we expected, the lack of one monitoring mission had no effect on the results of the voting."
