True genocide was committed in Azerbaijan – Ombudsman

"Armenia seeks to hold events at the UN level marking 100th anniversary of the so-called ‘Armenian genocide.’ But they should not forget that events which could also be described as an act of genocide have been committed in Azerbaijan, too", SIA reports.

It was announced by Ombudsman of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova while addressing the round table dedicated to Azerbaijan.

Numerous publications proving atrocities committed by Armenians should be prepared in Azerbaijan, she said. This will enable to demonstrate the whole world that a true genocide was committed by Armenians namely in our country, she added.

"Barbarism of Armenians in Khojaly is not the only fact. Bloody events that can be called genocide occurred in Azerbaijan in the course of many years. We must actively inform the world public," noted Suleymanova.

The event which is underway in Milli Majlis (parliament) of Azerbaijan is attended by MPs, Director of the Center for Strategic Studies at the President of Azerbaijan Farhad Mammadov and representatives for the offices of OSCE and UN in Baku.

Under a proposal to the UN General Assembly since 1950, Human Rights Day is marked annually on 10 December. The UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on this day in 1948.
