Different nations created their states in different times. Formation
and development of states go through many difficulties. They live
periods of formation, prosperity and decline."
According to News.Az, the statement came from
chief of the Presidential Administration, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev,
who was speaking at a presentation of the book by Graeme Wilson "Ilham: Portrait of a President" held at the Gulustan palace.
"All these processes have an important feature. This is the connection
of these processes with a single factor "state and leader".
According to common conclusions, notions of "state" and "personality"
were united in one figure "national leader" in the XX century and this
century gave the history many world renowned leaders. We can definitely
say that national state and national leader are phenomena of new epoch.
National Leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev is one of these leaders.
The end of XX and beginning of XXI century is defined as a fateful
period in the life of the Azerbaijani nation. Events in this period of
history brought two historical figures - Heydar Aliyev and Ilham Aliyev
to the political scene. They managed to fend off difficulties of the
period, direct the power of national unity to establish a state and
change the image of Azerbaijan and thus became leaders of the nation.
Among the successes of our sovereign history, national statehood
philosophy, recognized by world policy, of Heydar Aliyev is our
irreplaceable heritage. High level continuation of this heritage in the
new century turned into symbol of development and progress in the policy
of President Ilham Aliyev.

book devoted to the activity of President of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham

President Ilham Aliyev.
The main and different feature that attracts attention in this book
written by Graeme Wilson is that besides Mr. President’s image as a
national leader, political processes happened in Azerbaijan and beyond
during his presidency were analyzed impartially.
I consider that this book will be welcomed by a large group of readers
with interest and will turn an available material for researchers.
Another significant feature of the book is its coincidence with the
20th anniversary of state independence of Azerbaijan. I don’t doubt that
