Elshad Miri: January 20 mustn't be celebrated as day of mourning

"Only holidays are celebrated in Islam."

The 24th anniversary of "Black January 20" is coming up. The bloody accident is annually commemorated in the main squares of Baku. Generally there are different opinions in our society about the way it is celebrated.

Theologian Elshad Miri responds to the question of how to celebrate January 20 as follows:

"In my view, January 20 must be celebrated as a heroic day. We should celebrate it as a day of heroism, istead of mourning. In Islam, only holidays can be celebrated. And these are Gurban and Ramadan."
