Russian deputy PM: Armenia will have to choose between EAEU and EU

Armenia will not be able to “sit on two chairs” and will have to choose between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European Union (EU), Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk told journalists, SİA informs via TASS.

Earlier, members of the Armenian parliament passed in the second and final reading a bill on starting the process of the republic's accession to the EU.

“I have familiarized myself with the text of the law itself, which has been passed. It is like 'for all good, against all bad' or completely general words. This is an internal matter of Armenia. In fact, we realize that both the EAEU and the EU have similar agendas. And therefore, of course, the country will have to define itself and make this choice. Because it will not be possible to sit on two chairs at the same time, that's absolutely certain,” the Russian Deputy Prime Minister said.

“We see that Armenia continues to work actively in the Eurasian Economic Union. And today it makes its positive contribution to the Eurasian integration,” he said.
