NY Post: Meta faces potential $1 billion fine for EU antitrust breach
The European Union is set to fine American tech giant Meta for breaching antitrust regulations.
According to SİA, which cites Russian media and the New York Post, that the penalty could exceed $1 billion.
Sources familiar with the matter suggest that the European Commission is preparing to announce that Meta has violated the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA).
The fine could run into hundreds of millions of dollars and might even surpass $1 billion, with the EU likely concluding its investigation into Meta within the week. Officials are expected to announce the measures to be taken against the company and inform Meta about the necessary steps to comply with local laws.
Meanwhile, European regulators are also investigating Apple for potential antitrust violations, with a decision on possible fines expected next week or soon after.
In recent years, the European Commission has imposed several high-profile antitrust rulings, handing out multibillion-dollar fines to major American digital corporations like Meta, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, all of which dominate the EU’s digital market.
