The number of fatalities from the recent powerful earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to 5,346, according to the country's National Assembly Speaker Jorge Rodríguez, who shared the update on Telegram, SİA informs.
According to the government's daily update, 16,740 people were injured, and 17,265 were left homeless. A total of 190 buildings were completely destroyed, while 856 structures sustained serious damage.
Rescue operations have saved 6,462 people, while 39,567 victims have received medical assistance. Support has been provided to 128,324 families, with 23,122 individuals relocated to 107 temporary shelters. Authorities have also delivered 10,964.97 tons of food to those in need.
The earthquakes struck Venezuela on the evening of June 24, with two tremors of 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude occurring about 40 seconds apart. The epicenters were located in Yaracuy state, just 10 km apart. Since the main quake, 1,405 aftershocks have been recorded.
