CIA seeks to step up pressure on Cuban government

The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has established a secret task force focused on Cuba.

According to SİA, citing The New York Times, the unit includes specialists in intelligence analysis, agent recruitment, cyber operations, and covert activities.

The creation of the task force will allow the CIA to rapidly allocate additional financial, technical, and personnel resources to its Cuba operations.

Sources cited by the publication said Washington hopes to deepen divisions within Cuba's political elite and strengthen the position of figures willing to take into account the demands of US President Donald Trump.

Commenting on the report, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío said such actions were not unexpected, accusing the United States of spending decades attempting to destabilize the island.

Earlier, Politico reported that Washington had intensified its intelligence activities targeting Cuba in recent months.
