Armenian MFA: EU becomes key security partner for Yerevan

Armenia is strengthening its security ties with the European Union, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Paruir Hovhannisyan said.

SİA informs via Armenian media that Hovhannisyan said Armenia is already engaged in dialogue with the EU, which has included two meetings of the Permanent Commission on European Integration.

"We are discussing new formats in which we should begin more active work on defense and security issues. The European Union is becoming Armenia's most important partner in the field of security. That is why, for the first time, security has been given a prominent place in the agenda of the new partnership, with a separate chapter dedicated to it," said Hovhannisyan.

He added that the EU is currently actively discussing an agenda to strengthen the security sector, opening new opportunities for cooperation with Armenia in this field.

He also announced that Armenia has submitted its second application for funding ($10 million) from the European Peace Fund.
