A trial will be held tomorrow in Yekaterinburg for Azerbaijanis detained during Russian FSB raids, Report informs.
The court is scheduled for 11:00 local time.
As a result of the FSB operation conducted at various residential addresses of the Safarov family, 13 people were detained, two of whom were later released on the grounds that in 2001 they were 4-5 years old.
One of the 9 detainees - Kamal Safarov - is currently in the hospital in serious condition, a Report source said.
The reason for the operation against the Safarov family was a criminal case initiated in 2001. The Investigative Committee of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Oblast and the Ministry of Internal Affairs jointly published information about the operation against Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg. It was emphasized that detailed information is not being disclosed at this stage, as the investigation is confidential.
Meanwhile, news appeared in the Russian press that during the raids against Azerbaijanis, the chairman of the Azerbaijani diaspora in the Sverdlovsk Oblast, Shahin Shikhlinskiy, was also detained. The chairman of the diaspora, in a comment to Report, stated that this information is not true.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan also issued a statement on June 28 regarding the attacks on Azerbaijanis by Russian FSB officers in Yekaterinburg.
