Russia pursuing biased policy towards Azerbaijan – OPINION

Moscow is pursuing a biased policy against Baku, and Azerbaijan's successes are worrying a number of countries, including Russia, Azerbaijani MP Fariz Ismayilzada told Report.

He noted that pressure on Azerbaijan has been increasing recently.

"We saw this when the AZAL passenger plane was shot down, as well as during cyber attacks on Azerbaijani media and in other cases. At the same time, there are cases of violence and discrimination against ethnic Azerbaijanis. All this shows that Azerbaijan's successes are enviable. We do not accept such a policy. Azerbaijan advocates equal relations. Such incidents will not pass without a trace for relations between our countries. We criticize this policy and expect a more pragmatic approach from the opposite side," said Ismayilzada.

On the morning of June 27, the Russian FSB raided the houses of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg. During the raid, two people were killed and several others were injured. The killed Azerbaijanis are the brothers of the famous journalist Seyfaddin Huseynli.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry issued a statement on June 28, demanding an investigation and prosecution of those responsible for 'this unacceptable act of violence.' Later, the Russian chargé d'affaires was summoned to the Foreign Ministry, where a strong protest was expressed to him in connection with the incident.
