Turkish police arrest 138 over calls for illegal protests on social media

Turkish authorities have arrested 138 individuals in Istanbul for using social media to encourage protests following the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu.

According to SİA, which cites Haber Global, local police carried out operations between March 21 and 24, targeting individuals who spread calls for demonstrations, inciting fear, panic, and hatred among the public.

On March 21, three individuals were detained and later formally arrested by court decision.

On March 22, 58 suspects were detained. Of them, six were placed under house arrest, two were arrested, and the rest were released under judicial supervision.

On March 23, five more individuals were detained, with one person formally arrested.

On March 24, authorities detained 72 individuals, and investigations into their cases are still ongoing.
