Pope Francis welcomes agreements between Baku and Yerevan on text of peace agreement

Pope Francis has welcomed the conclusion of negotiations on the text of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

According to SİA, the statement from the pontiff was released by the Holy See's press office.

He expressed his appreciation for the steps taken toward peace in the South Caucasus amid efforts to reach a final peace agreement between Baku and Yerevan.

"May this be a sign of hope that other conflicts may also find a path to resolution through dialogue and goodwill," Vatican News quoted the Pope as saying.

The head of the Catholic Church, who had been hospitalized since February 14, appeared before the faithful today for the first time in five weeks.

The pontiff was seen on the balcony of one of the windows of Rome's Agostino Gemelli Hospital for the traditional Sunday blessing, after which he was discharged from the medical facility.

On March 13, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement announcing the conclusion of negotiations on the draft Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between Baku and Yerevan.
