Religious leaders from Azerbaijan address UK Prime Minister over misleading letter
Azerbaijan's religious leaders have sent an official letter to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, expressing their concerns over the content of a letter from Bishop Ovakim Manukyan, the head of the Armenian Diocese in London, and other British religious figures.
According to SİA, the letter highlighted that Manukyan's statements were misleading and could undermine the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
In their message, the religious leaders emphasized that Azerbaijan ensures freedom of worship, with different religious communities living in harmony.
They also pointed out that the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan stemmed from Armenia's occupation of Karabakh, not religious differences. The leaders clarified that Armenians currently facing trial in Azerbaijan are accused of war crimes, not as prisoners of war, and called the demands for their release contradictory to justice.
Azerbaijani religious figures also thanked the UK for its neutral stance and expressed confidence that the UK would continue supporting efforts for peace and justice in the region.
The letter was signed by Allahshukur Pashazada, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, along with representatives of Azerbaijan's Jewish and Christian communities.
