Azerbaijani citizens held hostage in Eritrea have been brought back to the country, SİA informs, citing Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry.
According to the information, 18 Azerbaijani citizens, who were part of the crew of the ships CMS Pahlavan, CMS Igid, and CMS-3 operated by the Azerbaijani branch of Caspian Marine Services B.V. and held by Eritrea since November 7 last year, were brought back to Azerbaijan. This was achieved through long negotiations and coordination efforts between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, and the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company, in line with the president's instructions.
The embassy of Azerbaijan in Ethiopia provided consular support to the crew members during their time in Eritrea, and necessary measures were taken to meet their needs.
The statement also expressed deep gratitude to the Embassy of Türkiye in Eritrea for their close support during this process.
