Pope’s condition continues to improve, prognosis unclear so far — Vatican

Pope Francis’ condition continued to improve, as he is being treated for double pneumonia, the Holy See said in a statement, adding that the prognosis remains unclear.

"The Holy Father's clinical condition is confirmed to be improving again today," the statement said. "Due to the complexity of the clinical picture, further days of clinical stability are needed to clarify the prognosis."

According to the statement, the Holy Father devoted the morning to various medical treatments. In the afternoon, he spent time in prayer in the chapel of his private apartment on the 10th floor and then "engaged in work activities."

The Corriere della Sera reported, citing sources, that the pontiff’s health condition remains serious, but the most critical phase of the disease has been overcome.

Francis was hospitalized on February 14 with lingering bronchitis. He was then diagnosed with double pneumonia.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow appreciated the Pope's efforts to help settle the Ukraine conflict and wished him a speedy recovery.
