US President Donald Trump is considering withdrawing the US military contingent from Germany and redeploying it to Hungary, according to sources close to the Trump administration, as reported by The Daily Telegraph.
At the moment, 35,000 US troops are on their service in Germany.
According to the newspaper’s source, Trump is "becoming increasingly frustrated that the continent is ‘pushing for war.’"
The Daily Telegraph suggests that the decision to favor Hungary may be linked to President Viktor Orban's stance on Ukraine and his approach to conflict resolution. The publication also notes that Trump intends to transfer US troops to countries that meet NATO's defense spending targets and have plans to increase them.
"While no specific announcement is imminent, the US military is always considering the redeployment of troops around the world to best address current threats to our interests," Brian Hughes, a US national security spokesman, told the newspaper.
