EC chief proposes €800B EU re-armament plan

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed increasing the current defense spending of EU countries by 1.5% of total GDP. This will free up 650 billion euros over the next four years, SİA informs.

She presented the EU rearmament plan, according to which the total budget should amount to €800 billion.

Europe is ready to increase its defense spending. First of all, in the short term to support Ukraine, and in the long term - to ensure its own security, she said, adding that the latter includes air defense, UAVs and protection against them, ammunition stocks, and other means of defense.

According to her, the European Commission intends to attract €150 billion in loans for the production of air defense systems in the EU and weapons for Ukraine.
