The United Kingdom has signed a new economic agreement with Ukraine on a $2 billion loan to purchase air defense missiles, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said after a meeting of European leaders on Ukraine, SİA informs via TASS.
"I am announcing a new deal, which allows Ukraine to use 1.6 billion pounds ($2 billion - TASS) of UK Export Finance to buy more than 5,000 air defense missiles, which will be made in Belfast," he said.
He also recalled that on Saturday London and Kyiv had signed a 2.26 billion pound loan ($2.8 billion) from the frozen Russian assets. The agreement on this loan was reached at the end of 2024.
Starmer said earlier that in 2025 London would provide Kyiv with a record-large worth 4.5 billion pounds ($5.7 billion), of which three billion would be allocated from the country’s defense budget and the rest of the sum would be part of a 2.26-billion-pound loan from proceeds from Russian frozen assets.
