Azerbaijan’s natural wealth of oil and gas resources gives it the potential to play a vital role in Europe’s energy security. As SIA reports minister of Great Britain for Europe’s speech, member of Britain Parliament David Ludington spoke about it. He said that transit of Azeri gas across Turkey to Europe via the southern Energy Corridor would give the EU a new and important source of energy. He also added that this will also bring benefits to Azerbaijan as gas producer and to others in the region looking for new export routes to energy markets: "Other opportunities exist for cooperation in the energy field between the EU and Azerbaijan, and other regional partners. Working together on energy efficiency, for example, to promote cost savings for consumers, creating more effective and more open markets, and addressing climate change. For Azerbaijan, and other European Eastern Neighbourhood partners, moving to EU norms and standards will help to match and open up their energy markets to those of EU. But it requires us both to share experience and best practice".
