"Sargsyan lies to everyone: the international community and its people . Nagorno-Karabakh was, is and will be a part of Azerbaijan."
The statement came from Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev responsing to the recent speech of President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, SIA reported.
Speaking in Yerevan on Saturday, Sargsyan again accused Azerbaijan of inciting hatred between the Azerbaijani and Armenian peoples, aggravating the situation on the frontline and the unresolved Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
According to him, the Azerbaijani side is guilty of maintaining a state of "neither war, no peace" between Azerbaijan and Armenia and fatalities on the frontline .
In response to Sargsyan, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the Armenian president is simply trying to confuse people with his eloquence as " the conflict cannot be resolved due to the continuing occupation by Armenia".
"The speech of the President of Armenia is aimed at domestic audience. [This is the ] cheap populism Sargsyan", Abdullayev wrote on his Twitter.
"The military policy of Armenia and the continued occupation of the Azerbaijani territories destabilize the region and threaten with an increase in tensions", he said.
Elman Abdullayev expressed his reaction on accusations Sargsyan addressed to the Azerbaijani leadership of chanting hatred towards the Armenian people .
"Azerbaijan has always been a country of tolerance, diversity and multiculturalism", Abdullayev said, referring to the long tradition of peaceful coexistence of people of different nationalities in Azerbaijan.
Meanwhile, the cruelty of Armenian military against the civilian Azerbaijani population of Khojaly has no excuse", he said.
According to the Armenian President, Azerbaijani leadership "is trying to burn bridges of peace and eliminate opportunities for mutual understanding between the Armenian and Azerbaijani peoples".
In response, Elman Abdullayev says that " burning bridges is a continuation by the Armenian authorities of the occupation of the internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan and disrespect for the UN Security Council resolutions".
Four resolutions of the UN Security Council- № 822, 853 , 874 and 884 – call for the unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from the territory of Azerbaijan. They still remain on paper for more than 20 years. 20% of Azerbaijan including the Nagorno- Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts remain under occupation.
