MP criticizes int'l organizations for failing to defend Azerbaijani children

MP Elmira Akhundova has slammed international organizations for their failure to defend Azerbaijani children displaced from their homes.

She made the criticisms at an event in Baku entitled "We say no to violence!".

"You approach the issue of children with double standards too. The rights of tens of thousands of children were violated, they were exposed to violence, killed, wounded, taken captive and other rights were violated too. What did you do about it?" Elmira Akhundova asked, referring to the occupation of Azerbaijani land by Armenian forces.

"Of course, one or two resolutions were adopted, but these documents are formalities, they are not serious," she said.

"I ask the Council of Europe and other international organizations to restore the rights of our hundreds of thousands of children. I ask and demand it."

The head of the Council of Europe’s delegation in Azerbaijan, Konstantinos Gerokostopoulos, and a representative of the UNICEF Office in Azerbaijan, Munir Mammadzade, also attended the event.
