We deal with double standards in U.S. foreign policy-Novruz Mammadov
In the interview with media, Head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Novruz Mammadov commented on the statement of the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, which criticized Azerbaijan impartially.

"This is quite an interesting statement," he said. "I would say that it is interesting for several reasons. First, I would like to stress that the discussions on human rights, of course, are very important in today's world. And the desire to protect those rights is quite normal. However, are human rights divided into different categories on their significance?"

Mammadov said the U.S. Department of State fully disregards the issue of violating the rights of nearly one million Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced people, who became the victims of Armenian aggression.

In her statement dated December 9, 2011 on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also mentioned Azerbaijan as one of the negative examples while speaking of the abuses in this area.

"If this issue is important for the U.S, why does the U.S. Department of State keep silence on the issue of violating the rights of one million of Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced people, driven from their lands as a result of the Armenian side's illegal armed aggression? Why does nobody make a serious statement on the issue?" he said.

"Perhaps, the individuals, who prepared this statement for the U.S Secretary of State, used their primer," he said. "But either they learnt it badly, or we deal with double standards in U.S. foreign policy."

He said that all the arguments in this case are obvious.

"It seems that there is unnatural love to Armenia from the U.S," he said. "The U.S demonstrates this attitude and proves that remains true to this course."

Mammadov said the U.S. kept silence even when the elections were grossly rigged in Armenia and 30 people were killed while dispersing the protesters.

"Even if there are hundreds of political prisoners in Armenian prisons, the authorities shut down all media outlets and declare a state of emergency, the U.S. will keep silence," he said. "It seems that the U.S. has some serious commitments to the Armenian diaspora. This makes media outlets and officials express negative about Azerbaijan, but speak of Armenia only positively."
