Azerbaijan, Turkey sign memorandum on

A memorandum of understanding on cooperation in space industry was signed between Azercosmos OJSC of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan (MCHT), Science Development Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Space Technologies Research Institute (Uzay Teknolojileri Araştırma Enstitüsü - TÜBİTAK UZAY) of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (Türkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Araştırma Kurumu, TÜBİTAK).

The document envisages cooperation in conducting researches in space and astronomy spheres, as well as in studying the Earth’s surface. The preliminary agreement on cooperation between the sides in this sphere was signed in May.

The Memorandum provides for joint research of space technologies and exchange of experience between Azercosmos, Science Development Foundation, and TUBITAK UZAY, joint use of satellite telecommunication systems for scientific purposes; preparation of pilot research projects for agriculture through the use of surveillance systems on the Earth's surface; organization of joint symposia, conferences and seminars on management of satellites; building new generation micro- and nano-satellites for the development of satellite technologies; joint development of satellite systems for monitoring and telecommunications; training of highly qualified Azerbaijani and Turkish specialists in the field of space science and astronomy etc.

TUBITAK UZAY is engaged in research and development projects on space technology, electronics, information technologies and related fields. It was established in 1985 under the name "Ankara Electronics Research and Development Institute" within the campus of Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ) and the university in Ankara.

In 1995, the organization was renamed. TUBITAK UZAY specializes in the field of space technology, electronics, information technologies and related fields.
