U.S ambassador to Azerbaijan makes statement on court cases of Azerbaijani youth and political activists
U.S ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar made a statement on the court cases of youth and political activists.
"The media has reported that authorities yesterday have extended the pretrial detention periods of two N!DA members, Zaur Gurbanli and Rashad Akhundov," the U.S embassy in Azerbaijan said today. "We continue to follow with concern the cases of these and other individuals arrested as a result of this year's protests."
Morningstar urged the Government to ensure that due process and the rule of law are upheld for all detainees, including speedy, fair and transparent trials.
"We will continue to monitor closely these cases and engage with the Government on them," ambassador said.
