The EU Delegation to Azerbaijan has welcomed the release of 87 prisoners, including the activists of the civil society, representatives of opposition parties and journalists under the pardon order signed by President Ilham Aliyev on December 26.
"The EU Delegation estimates this fact as a positive step towards strengthening respect for human rights and freedoms and hopes these constructive measures will be continued. EU will continue to assist Azerbaijan in fulfilling the commitments undertaken on the development of democracy and supremacy of law in accordance with the EU, OSCE and CE norms and values.
