Cellular operators of CIS countries should settle roaming rates - Minister

The Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications (RCC) intends to continue negotiations with mobile operators of the CIS countries in the settlement of roaming tariffs.

The statement came from Minister of Communications and Mass Media of Russia Nikolai Nikiforov at the joint meeting of the 47th Council of Heads of Administrations of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications (RCC) and the 18th Coordinating Council of CIS Member States on Informatization attached to RCC in Baku.

According to him, the subject of roaming tariffs is relevant to all countries of the CIS.

"This issue was discussed during the preparation of this meeting. Despite the signing of a number of intergovernmental agreements on the part of mobile operators, steps towards reducing roaming tariffs are not taken. However, we intend to continue to discuss this issue and to monitor the prices of operators of the Commonwealth," said Nikiforov.

He also noted that the operators need to act decisively in this direction.

"The RCC will facilitate decision-making on the part of operators, recognizing that the state should not directly affect the economic processes taking place in private companies.

Our task is to create conditions for mobile operators and simultaneously demonstrate the advantage of taking such positive decisions in this sphere," the Russian minister said.
