Baku warns Azerbaijani citizens about threat of visiting to Iran

Official Baku warned citizens that their visit to Iran may contain a threat to their safety.

The statement came from spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elman Abdullayev.

"Due to the events related to the detention of two Azerbaijani poets Shahriyar Hajizade and Farid Husyeyn, and the fact that Iran does not create the conditions for the meeting of Azerbaijani consulate staff with them, forcing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry to warn our citizens that the visit to Iran may be not safe for them", he said.

According to him, official Baku will continue its efforts in this direction.

"The situation around the poets shows that none of the citizens of Azerbaijan are secure from these troubles. Therefore, the visit to Iran may contain a real threat, and other citizens of Azerbaijan can to face false charges and be arrested. Therefore, we consider it our duty to warn our people about the existing security", Abdullayev said.
