Azerbaijan's religious leader receives gild coin of Serbia

Head of the Caucasus Muslims Department, sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade received a Gild Coin of the great emperor Konstantin dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the Milan edict.

The award was presented by Serbian ambassador in Azerbaijan Zoran Voyovich.

"I want to thank you for having taken personal part in the opening of the restored church and mosque in Belgrade and present you this coin for your contribution in the development of dialogue between cultures and civilizations", the diplomat said.

"To some extent, Azerbaijan and Serbia have common problems, related to violation of territorial integrity. There are no borders between religions, but, unfortunately, today there is a split between representatives of different religions in Serbia and they are on the different sides. We do hope that mutual understanding will be restored soon", Pashazade said in turn.

Head of the Caucasus Muslims Department said that Azerbaijan is a tolerant country where representatives of different nations and religions live free.

In early May Allahshukur Pashazade took part in the opening of the church and mosque in Belgrade which were repaired and restored by the Azerbaijani government.

The opening ceremony of the church and the mosque which was held on 3 May was attended by officials and religious figures of the two countries.
