The UN Azerbaijani Representation has held an event in Baku dedicated to Rio+20 Sustainable Development Conference to be held on 22 June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro.
UN Public Information Department's representative in Azerbaijan Envera Selimovic, UN experts in Azerbaijan Vugar Allahverdiyev and Chingiz Mammadov addressed the event which involved NGO representatives and journalists.
Selimovic in her speech stressed that Rio+20 was a significant event for humanity and, therefore, it was important to cover it widely and properly.
Allahverdiyev and Mammadov in their turn said Azerbaijan offered technical assistance to the work group of international experts for the preparation to the conference. Big work is conducted to raise awareness about Rio+20 among youths.
Brief information about Rio+20 was given at the event. It was underlined that Rio+20 was a historical opportunity to define the path taking to the future with numerous workplaces, clean energy, higher security and worthy lifestyle for everyone.
An address of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon was read at the end of the event.
