Red Cross visits Armenains captive in Azerbaijan

Staff from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have visited three Armenian servicemen and five civilians held captive in Azerbaijan.

The ICRC representatives delivered nine Red Cross Messages to the captives, Shahla Gahramanova, spokeswoman for the ICRC Delegation in Azerbaijan, said.

There are three Armenian prisoners of war and five civilians held in Azerbaijan at present. The civilians are members of one family – Yegishe, Ruzanna, Alfred, Gayane and Petros Gevorkian - who crossed the Azerbaijani border in January 2010.

The prisoners of war are Ohan Arutunyan and Gevorg Tovmasyan, who crossed to the Azerbaijani side in May 2009, and Karen Arutunyan, who crossed in July 2009. All three soldiers wish to be sent to a third country.

There is one Azerbaijani serviceman in Armenian captivity. Azerbaijani Corporal Mammadbagir Talib oglu Akhundzade, born in 1990, was captured by Armenians near the village of Yukhari Chayli in Azerbaijan’s Tartar District, closet to the line of contact separating the two countries' troops.
