Conflict affects stability and peace in the region

Azerbaijan's relations with other states and international organizations are not directed against third countries.

The statement came from Minister of Defence of Azerbaijan Safar Abiyev at a press conference in Tehran following a visit to Iran.

"Therefore, I want to unequivocally state that no country could embroil us with Iran, and our area will never be used for hostile activities against Iran", said Abiyev.

The minister recalled that Baku expressed its position again in a joint statement of the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Iran, in Nakhchivan on 7 March.

Touching upon the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry stated that it is the biggest problem of our country:

"The continuation of the conflict affects the stability and peace in the whole region. Armenia, continuing its occupation policy, is not interested in peace in our region. We believe that the Iranian government and people will make a more decisive stance in order to eradicate this injustice and for the liberation of occupied Azerbaijani territories.

Millions of refugees, burned villages, destroyed monuments of culture and history are now hostages of double standards. In this situation we have to strengthen our army and consolidate its material and technical basis in order to speak with the enemy in his language", Abiyev said.
