'We understand the decision of the French Constitutional Council'.
The statement came from Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev while commenting on the decision of the Council to abrogate the law criminalizing the denial of genocides, including Armenian 'genocide' claims.
He noted that some group of persons wanting to reach their goals by blackmailing some politicians failed.
'The Azerbaijani side declared that this law was contrary to freedom of speech and democracy principles. We witnessed that French legislation didn’t allow the fabricated document to come into effect. We think that this is the issue of historians, not politicians'.
