A delegation from the Californian Senate and members of the Azerbaijan-US inter-parliamentary friendship group have discussed expanding cooperation.
Samad Seyidov, chairman of the Milli Majlis committee for international relations and inter-parliamentary ties commented on the high level of relations between the two countries and said that the United States was an important partner for Azerbaijan.
Noting the important role
of the US in settling the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, he said that the USA
backed the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan,
while Azerbaijan, in turn,
supported the United States
in the fight against terrorism.
Azerbaijan, as the strongest
economic power in the region, plays a significant role in the South
Caucasus, Seyidov stressed.
Expressing pleasure with their visit to Azerbaijan, the head of the delegation, Joseph Simitian, who is chair of the US California Senate Environmental Quality Committee, described the trip as a fact-finding mission.
The visit will promote the further expansion of bilateral relations with Azerbaijan which plays an important role in the South Caucasus, he said. Simitian added that there was consensus among the 40-member Senate of California in regard to Azerbaijan.
