Russian official promises to monitor probe into death of Azerbajani girl

Russia calls for thorough investigation into the death of the Azerbaijani girl on the border with Armenia, as she was a resident of St.Petersburg.

'We want to be kept updated about the investigation because, the victim, the mother and a child are reportedly residents of St. Petersburg. Our authorities will rely on cooperation with the relevant Azerbaijani authorities,' Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference following a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov in Moscow.

Lavrov said that "any violent action on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan and not only on the contact line in Karabakh, but in general on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, require the most thorough investigation."

"As far as I know, the Azerbaijani authorities have opened a criminal case under article "murder", but to qualify this action as killing or as a terrorist act, of course, one must await the decision of the court."

He also called on to take all necessary measures to prevent such cases in future.
