“Financial Times”: EU can cite TURKEY as a model to the Arab divide
The Financial Times qualifies Turkey as a country with a thriving democracy and a valuable regional partner. The Financial Times newspaper says that the EU should lend support and give assistance to the liberalization movements in the Arab world just as it did to the east-bloc countries before.
It says further that the EU can cite Turkey as a model to the Arab divide. The editorial in the Financial Times captioned "European Date with Arab History" says that just as the European Union extended a helping hand to Poland and Hungary during the cold-war era, so it should do the same to the liberalization movements in the Arab world.
The Financial Times editorial says: "The road to freedom often involves unpleasant detours: excessive nationalism, economic distress, border conflicts, even civil war. But Europe must not lose sight of the reward that lies at the end of this road - a far more trusting and constructive relationship with North African and Middle Eastern neighbors whose governments at long last treat their peoples with dignity".
It points out that Turkey in this context can be a good model. And it qualifies Turkey as a country with a thriving democracy and a valuable regional partner while its political and economic modernization gains momentum.
