The European Union intends to double financing for projects in Azerbaijan.
Today in Baku EU ambassador to Azerbaijan Roland Kobia has said that in 2012 the EU intends to increase the budget for Azerbaijan as well as the number of projects under consideration.
"If earlier we mainly financed projects proposed by governmental agencies, this year we intend to focus on non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and to coordinate their relations with government agencies, as it is common in European countries," he said.
According to Kobia, to date the EU has considered 89 proposals made by the Azerbaijani organizations, but the budget did not allow approval of the projects.
"In 2012, due to the increase in funding, we declare the admission of new interesting projects and proposals. We are going to participate actively both in civil society development in Azerbaijan and in coordination of civil society relationships with local authorities," the EU ambassador said.
