State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan (SSC) has announced the volume of retail e-commerce in the country.
The volume of e-commerce in Azerbaijan is growing from day to day due to the increase in the number of Internet users in the country as well as products offered for sale over the Internet by industrial and commercial facilities.
It should be noted that the population’s growing ICT skills, increase of confidence in e-commerce and mail transportation sector have given great impetus to the interest in making purchases online.
Rapid growth rate of e-commerce in the country can be clearly seen in the latest statistical data released by SSC.
The Committee reports that in January-August of 2015, the volume of retail e-commerce turnover in Azerbaijan increased by 2.0 times and amounted to AZN 8.2 million compared to the same period of last year.
Thus, out of the consumer goods purchased by the population in electronic form 92.7 percent was bought on trade networks of legal entities and 7.3 percent was purchased on trade networks of individuals. Non-food products accounted for 96.5 percent of e-commerce turnover.
According to the committee, in January-August of current year, the volume of retail e-commerce turnover in Azerbaijan increased by 16.7 % and amounted to AZN 644.9 thousand, compared to the same period of 2014. The volume of catering services for legal entities AZN 276.5 million, while for private entrepreneurs operating in this area amounted to AZN 368.4 million.
