The Azerbaijani delegation has left for Quebec (Canada), where the shortlist of candidate cities to host the Olympics and Paralympics 2020 will be declared on 23 May.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, our delegation included Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Baku-2020 Yaqub Eyubov, Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov, vice-president of the National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzade and CEO Director of the Organizing Committee Konul Nurullayeva.
Before leaving, Azad Rahimov shared his expectations of the upcoming trip.
"We hope that Baku will be declared an official candidate to host the Olympics 2020. We have presented a Bid Book, prepared at the professional level, to the International Olympic Committee and it proved that Baku is a worthy and strong candidate. In the book we demonstrated the operational plan of an innovative and compact organization of the Games. We want to show an example of the serious impact our financial investments will have on the lives of the population, and improve living standards.
We proposed to the Olympic movement a purely sporty model of the organization of the Games. According to our plans, all sports facilities will be serve the Azerbaijani sportsmen of the country and the region after the Olympics. The proposed model is a feasible and profitable investment model for future organizers of the Olympic Games".
