Stanislav Pritchin: Azerbaijan has strong stimulus to hold fair and transparent elections

The refusal of OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) to observe the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan gives the country a strong stimulus to hold them in fair and transparent way, research assistant of the Center for the Study of Central Asia and Caucasus of the Institute of Oriental Studies (Moscow) Stanislav Pritchin told Secki-2015.az website.

The task of Azerbaijan is to hold the parliamentary elections openly and transparently.

The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan will be held on November 1.

Pritchin does not expect any serious intrigue in terms of elections’ results.

The position of the " Yeni Azerbaijan "(New Azerbaijan) party is dominant, and most likely, the elections would once again reinforce the power balance on the political arena, Pritchin said, adding that the situation of opposition in the country was not good.

Opposition has failed to consolidate, create workable agenda and change the situation in its favor, Pritchin said.

He also does not expect any changes in the foreign policy of the country after the parliamentary elections, unless strong the Western criticism regarding the results of the elections. In this case, it is logical to expect the strengthening of Russian and Iranian vector in the foreign policy of the country, Pritchin concluded.
