In 2013, the Republic of Azerbaijan purchased weapons worth USD 1,257bn and among other countries it is on the 15th place
It is reported by news portal The Epoch Times, referring to the Centre for Analysis of World Arms Trade (CAWAT).
Past few years, the President of Azerbaijan aimed to increase military power of the country. According to him, military spending today was higher than the overall budget of Armenia.
In the South Caucasus, on equipped arms, combat readiness and level of military discipline, the Azerbaijani army has become one of the most powerful, the magazine writes. Arms imports in the country over the last 10 years have increased by 155%.
Large supply of new weapons to Azerbaijan in 2012 was provided by contracts with Israel. In accordance with agreements totalling USD 1.5bn, the arsenal of Azerbaijan replenished with unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as other weapons.
The publication also notes that in the past year, the Azerbaijani military got weapons for ground troops from Russia worth more than USD 700m. Supply contracts were signed in 2011-2012.
