Permanent Representatives Committee takes step towards patent package
The Permanent Representatives Committee (COREPER II) on November 27 in Brussels endorsed a compromise text of the proposed amendments to the Brussels I Regulation on the jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments in civil and commercial matters. This allows reaching an agreement in the Justice and Home Affairs Council on December 6, SIA reports quoting the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2013.
"The amendments on which we agreed will ensure coherence between the Unified Patent Court agreement and the Brussels I Regulation. This will pave the way for entry into force of the so-called Patent Package," said chair of the Permanent Representatives Committee ambassador Raimundas Karoblis.
Amendments to Brussels I Regulation are intended to establish the international jurisdiction of the Unified Patent Court.
Patent Package consists of two Regulations on unitary patent and international agreement on Unified Patent Court. The purpose of the package is to provide for both unitary patent protection and unitary patent litigation system in the EU.
