US leading political figure awarded with Heydar Aliyev Prize

A leading political figure of the US was awarded with Heydar Aliyev Prize during a solemn ceremony held in Washington on the occasion of Heydar Aliyev’s 90th jubilee, Azerbaijani embassy in the US reports.

At the event, attended by numerous guests, Ambassador Elin Suleymanov spoke about the exemplary life of Heydar Aliyev – the founder of restoration of statehood traditions of Azerbaijan - devoted to the well-being of the country and people.

Heydar Aliyev Prize instituted by the Embassy of Azerbaijan was presented at the event for the first time. Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and Eurasia of the U.S. House of Representatives, Republican Congressman Dan Burton was awarded with Heydar Aliyev Prize for his contribution to the development of Azerbaijan-US relations. Burton was awarded with Heydar Aliyev Prize, the symbol of the leadership, for his leading role in the policy pursued by the US in Eurasian region.

Former Representative from Indiana Dan Burton is the first politician to speak about the Khojaly tragedy at the U.S. Congress. Dan Burton expressed his pride and satisfaction with being awarded with such a prize and said that he would justify the confidence entrusted in him and do his best to further deepen the relations between the states.

Following the official part of the event, one of the most brilliant representatives of the modern jazz of Azerbaijan, winner of the 45th Montreux Jazz Festival, Honored artist Emil Afrasiyab perfectly performed the pieces of the world and Azerbaijani music.

Officials of various U.S. government agencies, representatives of the diplomatic missions accredited in Washington, specialists of analytical centers, as well as numerous members of the Turkish and Jewish communities, former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Bob Livingston attended the event.
