Azerbaijan’s permanent representation in UN has sent a letter to UN Secretary General of 5 March of this year to draw attention to the facts of violation of ceasefire by Armenians.
The letter has an attached document with the indication of exact dates and directions of ceasefire violation by the Armenian armed forces.
The attachment fixes 71 facts of firing at Azerbaijani positions by Armenian armed divisions in period from 1 December 2011 until 31 January 2012.
Below is the text of the written appeal to the UN Secretary General:
"The letter of the permanent representative of Azerbaijan in UN addressed to the Secretary General of 5 March 2012.
Instructed by the government of Azerbaijan, I have the honor to draw your attention to violation of ceasefire that the Armenian armed forces continue , in particular, to violations fixed in December 2011 and January 2012 (see the attached file). Two servicemen and a civilian were killed as a result of those ceasefire violations. In line with the information in the attached file, in the reporting period Armenian armed forces continued intensive fire, shooting both at military and civilian targets in Azerbaijan not only from their positions in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan but also from Armenia.
This period was also marked with hostile statements of Armenian high-ranking officials. New cynical examples of outraging distortion of original causes, process and implications of war, initiated by Armenia against Azerbaijan, are the statements of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan n dated to the 20th anniversary of the Armenian armed forces on 22 January 2012 and the ninth conference of the Union of Goodwill Defenders of Homeland, held on 18 February 2012.
In fact, by boasting about his armed forces that would become an object of disgrace and disguise in any civilian society and praising a group of murderers that bear responsibility for cruel crimes against Azerbaijani civilians during war, the Armenian president gives clear explanations of what he means by saying Armenian brand and Armenian system of values.
All the time when the propaganda engine of Armenia is constantly criticizing Azerbaijan for the alleged increase of military spending and instigation to war, Armenian president makes a public statement which shows the unsubstantiated militarization of this country.
During his visit to NATO headquarters in 2010, Sargsyan said that ‘Armenian army has the ammunition of which the countries ten times as big as Armenia can only dream". In his aforementioned statement of 22 January 2012, the Armenian president said that ‘we first counted guns and even shells while now we have an impressive arms arsenal".
In addition, Armenia continues growing its military presence in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan. In particular, media recently reported that the Armenian armed forces use their unmanned reconnaissance jet in these lands. As is known, such a jet was first demonstrated during the military parade held in Armenia on 21 September 2011.
The information shows that the policy of aggression, hatred and falsifications held by Armenia continues hampering efforts taken for settlement of the conflict on the basis of talks and represents a serious threat for regional and international peace, security and stability.
I will be grateful for the spread of this letter and the attached file as the document of the General Assembly on points 35, 39 and 67 of the agenda, as well as the document of the Security Council.
