Tehran responds to protest note from Azerbaijan

Iran has responded to the note of protest from Azerbaijan.

Official Tehran has responded to the note of protest from the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan over the recent statement of chief of the general staff of Iranian armed forces, Brigadier General Seyyed Hassan Firouzabadi.

The statement came from the first secretary of the news service for Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev.

He said Azerbaijan currently studies the response of the Iranian side.

Chief of the general staff of Iranian armed forces, Brigadier General Seyyed Hassan Firouzabadi made anti-Azerbaijani statements in the interview with Iranian mass media.

He made accusations that Azerbaijan is allegedly suppressing Muslims and voiced an absurd idea that Azerbaijan is ‘Aran’ and its people are ‘Aranian, who have Iranian blood in their veins’.

Before that the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry responded to the Iranian official’s words.

Spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elkhan Polukhov, commenting on the statements of chief of the general staff of Iranian armed forces Hassan Firouzabadi, where he made inappropriate, absurd accusations and threats addressed to Azerbaijan and its leadership, said such political statements of the Iranian leadership is at least surprising.
