Electricity production increased in Azerbaijan in 2011.
In December 2011, the country produced over 2.1bn kWh of electricity.
According to Azerenergy JSC, 1.9bn kWh fell on thermal power plants,
0.2bn kWh – on hydroelectric power plants. In total, the electricity
produced in 2011made up 20bn kWh.
Thus, thermal power plants produced over 17.3bn kWh while hydroelectric
power plants – around 2.7bn kWh. During the last year, the energy
exchange continued with neighboring countries – Russia, Iran, Turkey and
Georgia.
In 2010, electricity produced in Azerbaijan made up 18.4bn kWh against 18.6kWh in 2009 and 20.1bn kWh in 2008.
