Trans Anadolu gas pipeline to amount to 16 billion cubic meters

The initial capacity of Trans Anadolu gas pipeline (TANAP) will amount to 16 billion cubic meters per year, Hurriyet reported referring to the Minister of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan Natik Aliyev.

He said the pipeline's capacity can be further expanded to 24 billion cubic meters.

"Azerbaijan has enough energy resources to fill this pipeline," Aliyev said during the signing of Memorandum of Understanding on construction of TANAP.

Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said the participation share of Turkey and Azerbaijan in this project will amount to 20 and 80 percent respectively. However, these figures can further change, Yildiz said.

The construction of Trans Anadolu gas pipeline (TANAP) is required for the export of most part of 50 billion cubic meters of gas that Azerbaijan intends to produce in 2025. Baku and Ankara intend to construct new pipeline on the Turkish territory.

Yildiz said the pipeline cost will be set by SOCAR and may be close to the figure of $5 billion.
