Italy have named three Artistic gymnasts for Baku 2015 while Russia are nearing their final cuts.
Italy's women's Artistic Gymnastics technical director Mr. Enrico Casella nominated Giorgia Campana, Alessia Leolini and Tea Ugrin to compete at the Baku 2015 European Games.
The 19-year-old Campana competed at the 2012 Olympics and also won the Team bronze medal at the 2012 European Championships. The Rome native also claimed Team and Balance Beam gold medals at the 2013 Mediterranean Games.
The 18-year-old Leolini and 16-year-old Ugrin have had less international success and will be heading to Baku 2015 to gain important experience.
The Italian team will not include the 17-year-old Enus Mariani, the 2012 All-Around European junior champion.
The Russian team meanwhile appears set to compete for medals. Coach Valentina Rodionenko has reportedly already selected London 2012 All-Around silver medallist Viktoria Komova and London 2012 Uneven Bars gold medallist Aliya Mustafina for the Russian women's team.
The third spot will reportedly be decided among 2014 Youth Olympic Games All-Around and Uneven Bars gold medallist Seda Tutkhalyan, 2013 Russian Balance Beam champion Evgeniya Shelgunova or Maria Kharenkova, the 2014 European Balance Beam champion and 2015 European All-Around silver medallist.
Russia's men's Artistic gymnasts are expected to be 2013 European All-Around champion and 2015 European All-Around silver medallist David Belyavskiy, 2013 Summer Universiade All-Around and Pommel Horse champion Nikolai Kuksenkov and 2014 European Team champion Nikita Ignatyev.
However, Rodionenko was quoted as saying that the team was not final.
