Organization of Islamic Cooperation held event on Khojaly genocide
A commemorative event on the 21st anniversary of Khojaly genocide was held for the first time at the headquarters of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The event was organized by the embassy of Azerbaijan in Saudi Arabia. The event was attended by about 100 guests, including OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, president of Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Ahmed Mohammed Ali Al-Madani, officials of the OIC general secretariat and IDB, representatives of OIC member states, heads of Jeddah-based diplomatic missions, Azerbaijanis living there and media representatives.
Delivering a keynote speech, Ihsanoglu spoke about Khojaly genocide and commemorated all the people and heroes killed in this massacre. Strongly condemning and reproaching this atrocity committed by Armenian armed forces, the Secretary General said that the relevant resolutions adopted by OIC Council of Foreign Ministers recognized the actions committed against civilians in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan as a crime against humanity. At the same time, Ihsanoglu underlined that he and the organization support and will always support Azerbaijan’s fair position.
Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia and permanent representative to OIC Rasim Rzayev said that in order to prevent such crimes in the future, it is necessary to inform the world community about the truths of Khojaly genocide, achieve its recognition as a policy of genocide pursued against the Azerbaijani people and its legal-political assessment and punish its perpetrators and ideologists.
At the end of the event, the guests got acquainted with photo exhibition entitled "Khojaly - in the eyes of children" and photos taken at the events held by the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation in Azerbaijan and other countries within the "Justice for Khojaly" campaign.
