Representatives of the Council of Europe's Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) have arrived in Azerbaijan, the chairman of the Azerbaijan Committee against Torture Elchin Behbudov said.
Behbudov said that he met with the vice-president of the CPT Jean-Pierre and representative of the committee Isabella Wurservas:" I can not disclose the details of the meeting in terms of confidentiality. However, we have discussed a number of issues on human rights and freedoms, cooperation, as well as torture and inhuman treatment. Council of Europe Anti-Torture Committee has a right to conduct monitoring in detention centers without informing anyone in the countries cooperating with them. Their visits are exactly related with this matter. They will monitor several prison centers of Azerbaijan and make a report."
